Week 4 Part 2

www.guitarcenter.com
www.etsy.com

The two websites I use quite often include guitar center and etsy. These are both very effective for their demographic they are going for. Guitar center is a site for all musicians. I am a musician. When I open up the website and see pictures of all these shiny guitars and new drum gear it just draws me in more. Etsy does the exact same thing. For anyone who is interested in random little gifts or personalized items they probably get led to this website. Then they see all these pictures of cute products that just drags them in to spend money. The primary reason both of these are effective is because both websites put their best foot forward on the homepage.

Both websites are also not a hassle. There are many colors and options of where to go but everything is easy to find. Both etsy and guitar center have a search bar at the top that allows you to see everything there is. On guitar center's website the search bar basically includes every instrument so you can look at every brand and every type of product.  It makes looking for what you want really easy. Also typically musicians are very specific when buying products like that so it is very useful. On etsy's website there are also many tabs to look into. It is not as specific as guitar center though which fits the type of business that it is. Etsy's website is like walking into a Micheals store and getting distracted by looking at everything for a long time.  That is how etsy's website is designed. You can get lost in all the options which isn't a bad thing. This allows both websites to be easy to use and more tempting for consumers.

As mentioned earlier both websites put there best foot forward and this also means that they put some sort of discount as one of the first things you see. Every single time I go to guitar center's page there is some sort of discount going on. This discount is surrounded by all these cool looking products which continues to make me want to buy everything. Etsy also does this but there isn't a big banner that says discount. Instead, you see a couple products and the prices of these products. On each product it says free shipping and the prices of these products are already low as it is. Both these designs force you to keep on looking and find what else there is to buy.

All these factors of the websites that I have mentioned are great for their websites and seem to be working out well since they are successful. The only issue is these are also things that I don't think would be recommended for the design of a website. There are a lot of colors and words all over the place. Someone who is not that interested in what these places have to sell might be turned away because it looks a bit overwhelming. New customers who just happen to find the site might not be willing to stick around and look at everything there is to offer. That is why I said earlier that they do a great job for the specific demographic they have already been reaching and are trying to reach. Overall though these websites do a great job at displaying all the best things on the first page we see to force us to keep looking.
