Week 4 Part 1

The first website I looked at was Jami Lin's Passions. This website was very intense when I opened it up. There were many different colors. It definitely makes you have to blink when you open it up. All the colors of the words and tabs are different. All the shapes and sizes are different. It just looks very intense to start off with. The second issue I noticed with this website was that you have no idea what it is for. There are words that have nothing to do with each other next to each other. It is just a page with many random words on it all put together as if there is some common theme which there doesn't seem to be. Lastly, there is no uniformity to this website. If you press on a tab or a link to the next page it takes to you a place that looks like a completely different website. Something that could be improved is making the purpose of the website clear right at the beginning on the homepage. As of now it is just colorful and confusing with many different color words. If there is one main picture and one big title on the homepage to clarify what the website's purpose is that would be very helpful. Also if there were less words and it looked clean, organized and uniform that would be more pleasing to the eye and make it easier to use.

The second website I looked at was Penny Juice. There aren't too many words and the colors are bright which makes it look appealing. Then you notice the picture of the kids which seems to go with the bright color which makes it cute. The first problem you face though is you don't know what the website is about. It is called Penny Juice and you don't know what that means and the picture is just of kids playing with paint. At this point it could be a charity or a daycare or something like that. The next issue is the name is confusing. After searching through the website you notice that they are selling juice but there also seems to be something significant about the pennies. It doesn't seem to explain anywhere what the penny is supposed to be yet it seems to be in the logo. The last issue is the way to buy the juice seems complicated. To buy the juice it takes you to a page with many different boxes and it seems confusing. That makes it difficult to figure out how to get the product. If this website changed it's logo to a picture involving juice instead of a penny then that would be helpful for people to know exactly what the website is for. Also if they adjusted the checkout page and had the price right above the boxes where you are about to buy it that would be more helpful. It makes it an easier process for the customer to prevent them from getting confused and quitting.

The third website I looked at was Apple. Apple's website is the perfect way of almost tempting a viewer. It shows very little words and a picture. It makes you want to keep looking for more. Everyone knows the brand and the logo so you see that in the corner. Then the website looks clean, organized and easily navigable. Even if there was someone that had no idea what Apple was they would know what this website is for because there is a picture of a phone as the homepage. The website also is mostly black and white. The only thing that isn't black and white are the screens of the laptops and phones they are selling. This gives the impression like there is something magical inside. It is a great way to sell the product. Apple does a great job at making things easy and at making you want to buy something with your eyes.

The fourth website I looked at was NPS.gov. This website has something great to start off with and that is the name and the purpose of the webpage is in bold right on the homepage. It says National Park Service in the corner and then the purpose is right under it. It says National Parks in Your Neighborhood and then a little search bar that says Find A Park. This is not only so easy and so helpful but it clarifies who the website is for and what is the point of it. In addition to that the images have everything to do with the website. They are all pictures of nature. Because of that there are many colors but because of the black and white surrounding all the pictures it makes it pleasing and not too bright to look at. There are a lot of words when scrolling down but I would say that is more of a positive for this website because it helps guide you to what you want to look at next. Overall everything is easy to understand and easy to follow on this website.
